Participation in a "Management+BIM" training course To internalize the working with the complex BIM automatisms we strongly recommend participating in a "Management+BIM" training course. An overview of our training portfolio as well as the training dates and locations can be found on our website at Support & Training. |

A powerful infrastructure Your computer, server and network should must meet the system and hardware requirements for HiCAD and HELiOS set forth by the ISD. For further information, please read the information in the System-/Hardware Requirements topic. |
Required licenses To be able to use the Management + BIM functions, you need to have HELiOS Engineer and one of the products listed below:
The utilized products need to be activated in the License Manager at HiCAD/HELiOS Configuration. |
Correct HiCAD BIM installation with database and ODBC connection Make sure that HiCAD is successfully installed, correctly configured for a working with the Management + BIM, and also that the HELiOS database is correctly configured. Further information can be found in the Installation / Parameter Configuration topic. |
Optimal settings in the Configuration Editor After successful installation, HiCAD will already be preconfigured for the utilization of the Management + BIM module. However, the ISD Configuration Editor offers many other parameters for a fine-tuning of the module to your company-specific requirements. For instance, you can specify here:

Suitable user rights and Workflow As a user of the Management+BIM module you must be a member of the groups Semi-finished prod. and Norm (Standard). Also, you should not have HELiOS Administrator rights, as this may cause problems in connection with permission management! After a correctly performed installation a standard Workflow will be set. If you have any questions concerning permissions management and Workflow configuration please contact your System Administrator. Further information on user and Workflow configuration can be found in the HELiOS Help. |
Availability of the required HiCAD catalogues in HELiOS Make sure that the required HiCAD catalogues (fasteners etc.) are actually available in HELiOS. If this is not the case you need to transfer them to HELiOS with the Catalogue Editor. The procedure is explained in the Transfer Standard Part Data to HELiOS topic. |
Customizing the drawing frames Drawing frames for the Management + BIM module are readily supplied with HiCAD. But of course, drawing frames can also be customized if desired. Further information can be found in the BIM-specific Drawing Frames topic. |
Using the right functions CAD data that originate from the CAD system, i.e. from HiCAD, may be changed or updated only there to ensure that this can actually be saved in the model drawing. This also applies to the checking, releasing or changing of the CAD data. Important: For such data you may ONLY use the functions of the "Management+BIM" Ribbon! Data that are linked to the project and have been inserted into the project with HELiOS can also be edited and released with HELiOS. However, this does not apply to CAD data. See also Overview of Functions (ManBIM) |
Existence of a main assembly The Management + BIM module works in a project-related manner and requires a non-BOM-relevant main assembly. All parts and assemblies belonging to this main assembly will be managed; all others will be excluded. When creating new model drawings with the functions of the Management + BIM Ribbon, such a main assembly will be automatically created. Extensive information on main assemblies can be found in the Main assemblies topic of the HiCAD Basics Help. |
Handling of manually assigned article masters Article masters that were automatically assigned by HiCAD will be deleted when changing or copying projects, and also when copying to other projects. Manually assigned article masters will be preserved if the article originates from a different project and the attribute STAHLBAUAUTO (project-related) has not been set yet in the article master. For instance, this is the case with resured parts. |
Using data backups Since the Management +BIM module works in conjunction with a database, and databases do not support UNDO functions, UNDO can only be applied to the very last Save action, as the data will be transferred to HELiOS when saving. Therefore, the data backups of HiCAD can only be used in a limited manner, as such data backups can only be used for projects that are in the same state as in the database. |

Planning of construction processes before project start When you plan the construction process you should distinguish between small and large model drawings. This determines whether
Before starting a new project you should always decide which of these two working methods you prefer. For further information, please read the information given in the Pre-planning of the Construction Process topic. |
