Important Information (ManBIM)
Before starting a new project, please observe the following notes on general procedures:
- First check whether all requirements for working with the Management + BIM module are met.
- Plan the construction process for your project. Do you want to design your model in one single model drawing or in several model drawings (due to the size of the model or because you want to save time through simultaneous working on the model on multiple workstations)?
- If you create and work on several drawings in one project you must decide how and in which drawing the itemisation is to be made. Please note that production drawings can only be derived from itemized original drawings.
- On the Management + BIM Ribbon tab you create a new project or activate an already existing one.
- Use the functions of the Management + BIM tab to create a model drawing with new article master, document master and a main assembly, or to load an already existing model drawing, save it with an article master while making sure that a main assembly exists, since only such parts will actually be managed that are located beneath such a main assembly in the structure.
- Now, create your model drawing as usual, using the HiCAD standard functions.
- Automatically itemize all parts and assemblies of the Management + BIM drawing. Production drawings and mounting drawings can only be generated if all parts and assemblies have an item number!
- To save your model drawing, please always use the Save function of the Management + BIM tab. Saving with this function automatically triggers the required HELiOS+BIM processes. After saving you will be able to check which parts have been used where, whether derived drawings exist and if so, if they are actually up to date. You have direct access to the product structure and much more.
- To generate the production documents, please do not use the HiCAD standard functions, but the functions of the Management + BIM tab. When saving the model drawing, these documents will be automatically linked to the corresponding article masters of the parts. In this way you can check at any time which documents are currently up to date, and which must still be generated or require updating.
Tip:
When using the Management+BIM module for the management of your CAD data, please always use only the PDM functions on the Management+BIM Ribbon tab! For a changing of the Workflow status of documents and articles managed with BIM, too, only the functions of the Management+BIM Ribbon tab may be used! The HELiOS functions should only be used for a viewing of the corresponding documents and articles, but not for their editing (e.g. item numbers, article masters, Workflow status etc.)!
In contrast, external data, such as Word documents, E-mails, documents by architects etc. can be managed freely.
Please note:
- The Steel Engineering Drawing Management module works in a project-related manner, and that the managed parts are assigned to a particular project. When fitting parts which are reused in other projects (e.g. purchased parts) you need to assign the article master manually. These parts will be ignored by the Drawing Management automatisms.
- A drawing derivation will always generate a non-BOM-relevant main assembly.
- If you manually create assemblies for the sake of structuring, but do not want them to appear in BOMs, deactivate the BOM-relevant checkbox in the part attributes masks of these assemblies.
- Additional, Management+BIM-specific attributes are available for document and drawing management in civil engineering. More information can be found in the Special Attributes.
- An overview of the HELiOS links in conjunction with the Management+BIM module can be found in the Overview of HELiOS Links topic.
- The drawing management status of model drawings and parts - e.g. "Checkup" or "Released" - will be indicated by means of symbols in the ICN. An overview of the symbols can be found in the Drawing Management Status in the ICN topic.
- If you have split your model drawing into several referenced detail drawings (Concurrent Engineering), please also read the Notes on Referencing.
Important:
After saving a drawing managed via HELiOS while the Management + BIM functionality is activated, no UNDO will be possible! The reason for this is that HELiOS data are generated (or updated) during saving and UNDO functions cannot be used for databases. Therefore, the data backups of HiCAD can only be used in a limited manner; Data backups can only be used for the project if the state of the database is identical.
