Example 4: Identification of Loose Parts
In production processes one often distinguishes between such parts that need to be welded in workshops, and such parts that will be sent to a construction site after their processing. Such mounted parts can be beams, profiles, plates, sheets or general parts and are called "loose parts" in HiCAD. These are parts that do not belong to a BOM-relevant assembly in which an assembly main part has been defined (Welded assembly). .
In this example loose parts are to be automatically recognized and designated as "mounting parts" in title blocks of drawings when creating detail drawings.
The image below shows three IPR beams (1), (2) and (3). Beams (1) and (2) are connected by means of the connection 1211 - Beam to web, with 2 plates and stiffener. Beam (3) is connected to beam (3) with the Notch functiopn, i.e. it is a loose part here.
Step1: Settings in the Confguration Editor
In the ISD default settings for Management+BIM no distinguishing will be made between loose parts and assembly part. This means that we need to change our settings in the Configuration Editor accordingly:
- Loose parts are to be designated as "Mounting parts".
- Distinguish between loose parts and assembly parts.
Please note: If you set the Distinguish loose parts and assembly parts switch to Yes, you must also ensure during itemisation that geometrically identical parts that are both available as loose parts and also belong to an assembly are recognized as different. To do this, you must create a corresponding group for loose parts on the Part groups tab of the Itemisation settings dialogue window and save these changed settings in a new Favourites file. To ensure that the settings of this file are taken into account during automatic itemisation, either change the setting in the Configuration Editor at System settings > Itemisation > Default settings or select the new Favourites file in the itemisation options (see Settings for Individual Part Type ).
In this example this is not necessary because there are no geometrically identical parts in different levels of the parts structure. |
Step 2: Create project and model drawing
- Call the Management + BIM > Project > New function to create a new project, e.g. EXAMPLE4.
- Call the Management + BIM > Drawing > New to create a new drawing file for a model drawing via database, with Article master (SN-xxxxxx) and Document master: DN-xxxxxx).
- Take over the assembly attributes.
- Choose Steel Engineering > New > Standard and insert the beams, e.g. IPE 400:
- Apply Connection 1211 to the left beam, and connect the right beam with the Notch function.
- Management + BIM > Parts > Item. (use the default settings for Steel Engineering)
- Call the Management + BIM > Drawing > Save function.
Step 3: Change the part annotation settings in the files BIM_PDM_WSD_xxxx_Designation.ftd
- Call the Annotations - Settings, Change function (3-D Dimensioning + Text > Text> Leader > Settings, Change).
- Load the FTD file for beams: BIM_PDM_WSD_Beam_Designation.ftd
The default setting is:
Replace the text %TS(TEXTE_STB401) with the article attribute COMPONENT_WSDTYPE.
Save the FTD file under the same name.
- Proceed likewise with the following FTD files:
- BIM_PDM_WSD_Multi_Designation.ftd (multi-part beams)
- BIM_PDM_WSD_Part_Designation.ftd (general parts)
- BIM_PDM_WSD_SheetMetal_Designation.ftd (Sheet Metal parts)
- BIM_PDM_WSD_SteelPlate_Designation.ftd (Steel Engineering plates)
Tip:
The attribute COMPONENT_WSDTYPE is not available for assemblies. If you want to designate assemblies in the title block in a different way, you need to replace the string %TS(TEXTE_STB401) in the file BIM_PDM_WSD_Assembly_Designation.ftd with a fixed text.
Step 4: Create the detail drawings
- Select Drawing > Create/Update - Manual settings .
- Select the parts for which you want to create a detail drawing and click OK. Confirm your selection with Yes.
- First, create detail drawings for assemblies. Change the settings accordingly and click OK.
- The drawings will then be created. HiCAD checks whether any drawings are still missing and offers the corresponding parts for selection.
- Select the parts for which you want to create a detail drawing and click OK. Confirm your selection with Yes.
- Now, create the detail drawings for main parts and sub-parts. Change the settings accordingly and click OK.
Now, all drawings are up to date.
Articles and documents in HELiOS with COMPONENT_WSD_TYPE column
If you now open the detail drawing of the notched beam, you will see that the beam has been designated as a "Mounting part" in the title block.
