Classification of Documents and Articles

Classification

Documents and articles can be divided into different classes and sub-classes for the sake of document and article structuring, thus enabling a targeted selection according to the search criteria of the user. The search can be further restricted due to the hierarchical structure.

The criteria could be, for example, dimensions or the material of a part, but also production criteria such as dimensional tolerances, form tolerances, surface structure etc. Products can be standardised due to the classification of articles and documents; at the same time, the part variety can be reduced.

Select Admin Tools > Classification > Documents or Articles to call the classification structures.

Insert new class

Insert a new class using the Classification function. This function can be accessed as follows:

or

In the Classification dialogue window, right-click CLASS STRUCTURE or an already sub-entry and select Insert new class. The new class will then be added to the hierarchical tree structure.

In the next input windows, enter an unambiguous Class name and the Mask name in the corresponding text input fields.

In the Mask name field, enter the file name of the mask (without the extension .MSK) that is to be used for the class, e.g. DLGDOKUDETAILUSR.

Save your input with OK.

The MSK files for masks can be found in the SYS directory of your HiCAD installation. In the mask you can narrow your search in this class further. You can also create your own masks in the Mask Editor, where you can search via the mask attributes, e.g. only parts with a particular height.

Assign class

You can assign a new class when entering a new document or article.

Click the symbol at the bottom left of the input mask. In the structure tree of the Classification window, select the class to which the Document or the Article is to be assigned. Confirm with OK.

A new tab will be created in the detail window of the Article, where you can enter further specifications for the class of the Document or Article.

Class as search criterion

In the Find... masks for Articles, Documents and the Combined search mask you can click the symbol and then OK to add a Classification tab to the window, in order to search for Documents and Articles via their class assignments.

For instance, if you enter "E-Mail" in the Class name input field on the Classification tab of the Find documents window and click Find, all Documents assigned to the class "E-Mail" (and for which the search criteria specified on the Document tab match) will be listed.

However, you can also select the class "E-Mail" with a click on , whereupon the attributes of the corresponding class will be added as class tab.

In this way you can search for Documents which belong assigned to a class and match a particular criterion (e.g. "Ref.", or "Sent").

For Article searches, too, you can use criteria of the class to further narrow the search for particular Articles. For instance, a conceivable case in practice would be the search for a seal with a particular thickness. On the corresponding tab, set a value for "Thickness" as search criterion.
