Create / Add / Update Drawings (BIM-PLM)

Now create, add and update the workshop/detail drawings.

When deriving drawings with the BIM-PLM functionality, the parameter CONDITION FOR 'DRAWING IS UP-TO-DATE' from the Configuration Management will be evaluated. This parameter determines under which circumstances the "Drawing is up to date" link will be set for derived drawings. Further information can be found in the Configuring the BIM-PLM Suite topic.

In the following example the parameter CONDITION FOR 'DRAWING IS UP-TO-DATE' has been set to 0. This means that if the assembly has a detail drawing, the main parts and sub-parts also obtain the link "Drawing is up to date".

Step 1: Create drawing

First create derived drawings of the selected assembly.

  1. Select (mark) the assembly.
  2. Select PDM > Drawing > Derive . In our example the following setting will be used:

Exit the dialogue window with OK. HiCAD will now start generating the drawings.

After completion of its generation, the drawing will be displayed. As you can see in the ICN, the parts in the drawing have been referenced: Referenced parts are identified by the symbol. Here, the referencing is "unilateral", i.e., the drawing can automatically be updated in case of any changes to the model. The parts can however not be changed in the drawing.

Step 2: Add drawings

Now create the remaining drawings for the other parts.

  1. Switch back to the original drawing by clicking the corresponding thumbnail in the Switch drawing docking window.
  2. Select PDM > Drawing > Derive > Add, Selection via HELiOS .
  3. The Combi-Search dialogue window will be displayed. Here, the parts for which a drawing does not yet exist will be listed (Link: Without drawing). Mark the detected parts and click Apply.

  1. In HiCAD, the parts for which a workshop drawing does not yet exist will be highlighted and you will be asked whether you want to create the corresponding drawings for these parts. Select Yes.

  1. Use the same settings as in Step 1, but with one exception: In the Externally created drawings field, select Close created drawing. Exit the dialogue window with OK. HiCAD starts the generation of the drawings and switches back to the original drawing.
  2. Save the drawing by selecting PDM > Drawing > Save drawing .
  3. Start the HELiOS Desktop and activate the Combined search. In the dialogue, activate the Part tab, select the example project, and select the links Without drawing and Drawing not up to date. Click Combi-search. As no items will be found in the database, all drawings are up to date.

Step 3: Update drawing

Now change the 3-D model and update the drawing afterwards.

In our example, bores are inserted in a steel beam. Select the corresponding beam in the drawing area or in the ICN and apply the bores.

  1. Itemise the drawing and save it by selecting PDM > Drawing > Save drawing .
  2. Select PDM > Drawing >Derive > Update, Selection via HELiOS .
  3. The Combi-Search dialogue window will be displayed. Here, all parts that are not up to date will be listed. (Link: Drawing not up to date). Mark the detected parts and click Apply .
  4. These parts will be highlighted in colour in your model drawing and you will be asked whether you want these parts to be updated. Select Yes.
