Overview of Functions (BIM-PLM)

The functions for the BIM-PLM solution can be found on the PDM tab of the Ribbon. If this tab does not appear on the Ribbon, select Settings > Ribbon categories and activate the PDM checkbox.

The tab is made up of the following function groups:

Project	Activate, Create, Edit projects
Drawing (New, Open...)	Create, Load, Save drawings; referencing of parts
Drawing (Auto, Derive)	Automatic itemisation of parts; Create, Update, Add, Delete derived drawings
Production	BOM generation and data export via the steel- and metal engineering-specific DSTV, SDNF and NCX interfaces
HELiOS PDM functions for active drawing	Editing of part and document master data; release functions for Workflows; updating of title blocks
HELiOS PDM functions for active part	Editing of part master data; release functions for Workflows; Find/Open linked documents

All functions of the BINM-PLM solution work largely in the same way as the same-named standard functions in HiCAD and HELiOS. Extensive information on the HELiOS PDM functions can be found in the HELiOS in HiCAD Online Help. The HELiOS Desktop Online Help provides extensive information on the HiCAD functions in the corresponding sections of the Online Help, such as HiCAD Steel Engineering or HiCAD 3-D.

Please note:

BIM-PLM management needs to be active, which will normally be the case after installation of the BIM-PLM suite. If, however, the PDM tab does not appear on the Ribbon for some reason, please check the appropriate parameters in the file STB_PARAMETER.DAT and in the WINDOWS registry.
BIM-PLM-Typical configuration
When installing the BIM-PLM suite, activate the HELiOS product data management BIM checkbox in the Parameter configuration dialogue window. This will automatically configure HiCAD title blocks, drawing frames, BOM-templates and various HELiOS masks appropriately for BIM-PLM utilisation. These settings can either be selected for the workstation or for individual users.

If you want to change the workstation or user configuration subsequently, select Start > All programs > ISD Software und Systeme > Administration > User Parameter Configurator or Computer Parameter Configurator,respectively.

HELiOS part master; document master and project for drawings
All HiCAD functions of the BIM-PLM solution require that the corresponding HiCAD drawings have been saved to HELiOS with part and document masters, and that they have been assigned to a project.

If the BIM-PLM solution in HELiOS is active, the HELiOS functions for the saving of drawings without part master are inactive. Newly created HELiOS items must always have a part master and document master and need to be assigned to a project.

Article numbers and item numbers of parts
Besides the identification of parts via article numbers, as is usual in mechanical engineering, the BIM-PLM solution additionally manages an item number (integer number) and an item number text in the part master. These can be used for the retrieval of parts and the documents linked to them. The identification of the parts via "project number + item number + index (optional)", as is frequently used in civil engineering, is thus also supported by the BIM-PLM suite.
