Add Beams
Steel Engineering > Further functions > Add
This function works, in principle, in the same way as the Exchange function, the difference being that the original beam is preserved and an additional beam of a different type and/or different dimensions is added at the same position and with the same processings as the original beam.
In practice, this function is mainly used for constructions containing bar elements, for which the correct beams have already been fitted, but the bar elements of which are to be preserved.
Please note:
- The processings that you have carried out on the beam to which another beam is to be added will only be applied if they are plausible. HiCAD automatically performs a plausibility check for this. If a processing step cannot be performed on the new beam, a corresponding message will be displayed.
- You can also add several beams in one step. To do this, specify a relevant part list, i.e. select all beams to which you want add futher beams. You can then activate the function via the context menu by right-clicking one of the beams.
- A series beam requires only a sub-part to be selected. The beam will be added to the complete beam.
Further Add functions
Steel Engineering > Further functions > Add
Click to open a pull-down menu with functions enabling you to add prototype beams, sketch beams or a series beam, multi-part standard beams or elongated plates to fitted beams. Here you will also find functions allowing you to add series beams that can be selected via the Catalogue, the Explorer, LogiKal or the article /document master.

Proceed as follows:
- Select the required function.
- Identify the beam to which you want to add another beam. Depending on the selected function, the same dialogue as for fitting of beams will be displayed: If, for instance, you have selected the Add prototype beam to beam function, the Prototype beams dialogue window will appear.
- After selecting the function, activate the beam, series, or sketch beam to be added. If you select the Add sketch beam to beam function, you will be prompted to specify various attributes such as Designation (Article number), Weight/Length or the Material. After finishing your entries, exit the window with OK.
- The Fixed point window will be displayed. For an exact positioning of the new beam, define a new reference axis for the beam to which the new beam is to be added, and the reference axis for the new beam. If you want to rotate the new beam during fitting, also specify a rotation angle.
- Exit the window with OK.
The beam will be added. All processings performed on the original beam will be applied (provided that they are plausible).
