Coordinate Systems

Drawing > Others > World CS

Both in 2-D and in 3-D, HiCAD supports various coordinate systems, thus facilitating the input of coordinate values. The following coordinate systems are available, only one of which, however, can be active at any one time:

• the standard coordinate system – also called world coordinate system,
• the part coordinate system (only 3-D) or
• a local coordinate system.

All information contained in a HiCAD drawing initially refers to the HiCAD standard coordinate system (world CS) when a new drawing is created:

• In 2-D, the origin of the coordinate system is automatically placed in the point (0,0).
• The origin of the coordinate system in 3-D lies in the point (0,0,0).
• All coordinates are saved relative to the origin of the coordinate system.

The position of the coordinate system origin and the unit of measurement and the selected scale simultaneously define the screen display.

You can access the functions for defining and processing coordinate systems via Drawing > Others > World CS or via the drawing context menu.

A distinction is made here between:

• 2-D coordinate systems and
• 3-D coordinate systems.

When a new drawing is created, the world coordinate system is always active; when a drawing is loaded, the coordinate system that was active when the file was last saved is active!
