Connect Pipes
"Civil Engineering functions" docking window > Steel Engineering > Connections > Front side to front side > Connect pipes (1508)
This function connects pipes to elbows according to DIN 2605, with aperture angles of 45°, 90° and 180°. Proceed as follows:
- Identify the first pipe to be connected.
- Identify the second pipe to be connected.
- The Connect pipes dialogue window will be displayed.
The settings in the dialogue window can be saved as Favourites and reused at any time. To do this, click on the at the bottom left of the window to activate the context menu. More about Favourites management can be found in the Manage Favourites topics of the HiCAD Basics Help.
Please note:
- The two pipes to be connected must be of the same type and must have the same outer diameter.
- The lengthened profile axes of the two pipes to be connected must intersect.
- Click the Preview button if you want to display a preview of the connection based on the currently entered data. If you want to modify the current data, apply the required changes and click Preview again to update the preview. Click OK to insert the connection according to the current data and close the dialogue window. If you click the Cancel button, the window will be closed, and the specified or changed connection will not be inserted.
Configure pipe connections
The configuration of the pipe connection takes place via the tabs of the dialogue window.
Selected parts
This tab provides information about the previously identified parts, e.g. material, dimensions etc. Value inputs or modifications are not possible here.
Elbow
On this tab you specify the elbow.
- Select a Type. You can choose between different radii of curvature:
- 2 (radius of curvature approx. 1.0 x outer diameter)
- 3 (radius of curvature approx. 1.5 x outer diameter)
- 5 (radius of curvature approx. 2.5 x outer diameter)
- 10 (radius of curvature approx. 5 x outer diameter)
- 20 (radius of curvature approx. 10 x outer diameter)
- Click OK to exit the window.
The connected elbow must fulfil the following conditions:
- The elbow must have the same outer diameter as the two identified pipes.
- The wall thickness of the elbow must be smaller than or equal to that of the pipe with the greater wall thickness.
If no elbow with a wall thickness identical to that of the two pipes can be found in the catalogue, an elbow with a smaller wall thickness might be considered, provided that it meets the requirements for wall thicknesses.
If no such elbow can be found, or if only elbows with a greater wall thickness are available, the pipes cannot be connected, and the message No matching elbow available for selected pipe ! will be displayed.
Connection of two pipes with equal outer diameters, but different wall thicknesses
