Part and Dimension Orientation

Drawing > Itemisation/Detailing > Orient...

Part orientation

With the functions underDrawing > Itemisation/Detailing > Orient... you can determine for assemblies, general 3-D parts, beams and profiles, sheets and plates as well as pipelines in Plant Engineering which plane of the active view is to be considered as front view or top view in the drawing derivation. This influences the alignment of the assemblies, parts, beams, profiles, sheets and plates in derived drawings as well as the pipelines in the isometry and pipe spool drawings. In addition, the orientation is also taken into account when calculating assembly dimensions.

Calculation of dimensions and dimension orientation

HiCAD also offers the possibility to automatically calculate dimensions of assemblies and parts and assign them to the attributes Length ($03), Width ($02) und Height ($04). The calculation of dimensions and the way it is displayed in the drawing can be switched on/off in the Configuration Editor. Not all parts are always relevant for the dimensions of assemblies. They can be marked as not relevant for dimensioning and thus be excluded from the calculation. These can be, for example, auxiliary parts that are only there for CAD drawings and do not belong to the actual model (trigger components) or parts that are dismantled or folded down for transport.

In addition to the automatic calculation of dimensions, it is possible to change the dimension orientation. This can be useful, for example, to determine optimal product packaging or to optimise the transport of equipment, etc.

The following functions are available:

For the active part, the functions are also available in the context menu for parts.
