HELiOS Spooler
The HELiOS Spooler is a software program that allows a centralized processing or print and conversion jobs in a HELiOS environment.
A centralized handling of print and conversion jobs reduces the workload of workstation computers and thus optimises corporate processes. Workstation computers with an installed HELiOS Desktop and/or several CAD systems send print or conversion jobs to the HELiOS Spooler via the HELiOS PrintClient.
For this purpose the HELiOS Spooler is installed on a separate computer on the network (Spooler Server). This computer must have enough memory, i.e. approx. 1 GB for the running software and, in addition, provide enough space for the plot data (these are saved to a temporary directory of the Spooler). The system on which the Spooler software will be running should not be logged off, but only locked.
All applications used to create the documents you want to print/plot must also be installed on the Spooler Server, e.g. Word for Word documents (.DOC), Excel for Excel documents (.XLS) etc.
You start the HELiOS Spooler on the corresponding system. If it was installed to the suggested default path, you can either start it via Windows by selecting Start > All Programs > ISD Software und Systeme GmbH > HELiOS Spooler, or by double-clicking the HELiOS.Spooler.Admin.exe file in the directory C:\Programs\HELiOS Spooler\exe (provided that this suggested directory was used for the installation).
The HELiOS Spooler Admin Tool will then be started.
In this window, a list of the jobs that are handled via the HELiOS Spooler is displayed. From there you can also access various setting options for paper types, printer assignments and target directories.
Please note:
- As of HELiOS 2015 a new HELiOS Spooler is supplied. As the HELiOS Spooler is an entirely new software, an update of the old Spooler is not possible. Before installing the new HELiOS Spooler, please make a record of the old Spooler’s settings, uninstall it, and then adjust the settings of the new Spooler accordingly.
- The HELiOS Spooler must be started by a user who has been granted the permission to grant accesses to directories. Further information on user accounts and operation as service can be found in the corresponding chapter of the Installation Notes manual.
- If you work with HiCAD and the HiCAD Spooler, the HiCAD Spooler had to be started (before the HELiOS Spooler!) for the printing/plotting of HiCAD drawings. This sequence must be respected, also after a re-start of the Plot Management.
- The output devices (printers) that are available in the HELiOS Spooler are those that had been installed on the Plotmanager Server system. Therefore, the adding or removing of printers and other devices takes place via the operating system.
- The various formats to which documents can be converted via the Spooler from the HELiOS Desktop (e.g. DXF), are determined in the system file hel_fileconvert.ini.
