Views

3-D Standard > New > Extruded > 2-D->3-D Conversion > Views

The first step after the loading or the import of the 2-D drawing is the definition of the views. HiCAD needs to know which view of the 2-D single part you want to use as front view, side view and top view. In addition to the front view, at least one of the two other views needs to be defined. An exception to this rule is the Revolved solids function.

Proceed as follows to define the views:

1. Activate the Views function of the 2-D->3-D Conversion menu.
2. Define the front view by drawing a selection box. Then define a reference point for this view. This reference point is the origin (zero point) for the front view.
3. Proceed likewise to define the side view and the top view including the reference points. If a side view is not available or will not be needed, right-click to continue with the definition of the top view. If the top view is not available, right-click to end the definition of views.

Please note:

• At least two views need to be defined.

• The reference points of the individual views need to match, otherwise the 3-D drawing cannot be derived correctly.
• The reference points of the individual views will be inserted into the drawing as isolated points. Please remember:
• Once defined, the views will be retained after saving the drawing. This enables you to use them for further derivations of 3-D models.
• When you call the Views function from a drawing that already contains defined views and thus isolated points, HiCAD will ask you whether you want the defined view definitions to be deleted.

 

If you want to use the defined views in order to complete the 3-D model in a later HiCAD session, you should not transform the available 3-D model. Otherwise, the correct links between the 2-D views and the 3-D models will be lost!
