Dummy Part

3-D Standard > New > Others

You can use the definition of dummy parts to structure construction in order, for example, to define the part structure even before constructing parts. The dummy part then symbolises an assembly. By activating the dummy part (assembly) in question, you can assign the parts specifically during construction. The use of dummy parts (assemblies) may also be relevant to referencing as well as generating and removing surfaces.

In contrast to the Assembly function, the dummy parts created using this function do not have the special efficient properties with respect to itemisation and identical part search, BOM creation and use of HELiOS. They are used merely for structuring purposes.

Select 3-D Standard > New to access the following functions for dummy parts:

New dummy part

Inserts a dummy part as main part into the drawing. The part will be automatically given the name "3-D Sketch".

Create new c-edge part as sub-part

Inserts a dummy part as sub-part to the active part into the drawing. The part will be automatically given the name "Dummy" or "Dummy part".

Superordinate dummy part

This function creates a new dummy part to which all parts of the drawing will be subordinated.

If your drawing contains a main assembly, HiCAD will proceed as follows when you create a super-ordinate dummy part: The dummy part will become the (new) main assembly, "inheriting" all HELiOS properties from the previous main assembly (except for the part name), which will become a normal assembly.
