Attribute-Controlled Archiving of Files

It is generally possible to assign files to different volumes for archiving purposes via given HELiOS attributes with the help of the VArcMove tool, i.e. documents will be automatically moved to other locations (storage drives) if a specific attribute value has been set for this purpose.

The prerequisites for this are as follows:

If you want to be able to move individual documents manually in the HELiOS GUI to archives, you also need to integrate the revision attribute V_ARCHIVE with the Mask Editor, e.g., into the document detail view, to be able to set the corresponding value via a selection or a value input.

However, it is also possible -and probably more convenient - to perform a document search list as a user with administrator rights, select multiple items in the result list, and then use the Edit attribute value function to set the attribute (select V_ARCHIVE under Attribute and enter the number of the archive volume as a value, i.e. enter "3" for FileVolume0003).

Another option would be the creation of SQL scripts setting the attribute value depending on particular criteria (e.g. a Workflow status).

When you run the program VArcMove.exe, files with the corresponding attribute value will then be moved to the archive drives assigned via this value. VArcMove is a pure console program, i.e. it can also run in batch operation mode (if required, during nighttime).

(Optionally, a calling parameter can be supplied for the server instance if several Vault Server instances are running simultaneously on one computer.)
