Attribute-Controlled Archiving of Files: Preparations

To be able to move files via an assigned HELiOS attribute to particular archives with the help of the tool VArcMove, the following prerequisites must be fulfilled:

  1. Configuration of the Vault Server in the Registry
  2. Database attribute V_ARCHIVE

1. Configuration of the Vault-Server in the Registry

When configuring the Vault Servers in the Windows-Registry, further directories need to be specified, in addition to the already defined FileVolume0001 and FileVolume0001Status, (i.e. consecutively FileVolume0002. FileVolume0003, and FileVolume0002Status, FileVolume0003Status, ...).

In this context, see also: Vault Server: Create Further Directories for Documents.

The counting order of the Volumes begins with 1 and needs to be consecutive.

The value of a FileVolume000X entry is the path of a data directory. The FileVolume(...)Status entry should be set to 0. 0 stands for an archive folder.

In addition, the entry NumFileVolumes must contain the quantity of Volumes.

In the current example, FileVolume0003 is to be used as an archive volume, and has therefore be set to 0. In its initial state, this directory is empty.

The existing files to be archived in FileVolume0003 are distributed among the "working directories" FileVolume0001 and FileVolume0002 (these are therefore set to 1 in the Registry).

2. Database attribute V_ARCHIVE

To be able to move HELiOS documents in the Vault Server automatically to archive drives, the corresponding revision attribute must have been created with the help of the Attribute Editor.

Start the Attribute Editor. Select Create user-defined attributes > Document. In the following dialogue window, click the New button at the bottom of the Attribute description area.

In the Class selection field, choose DokumentRevision in the Data type field, choose INTEGER, and in the Name field, enter "V_ARCHIVE".

Leave all other field empty, unless otherwise requested.
