Select this option to specify the settings for the Variant Editor. If a variant is loaded, the Settings button is inactive.
The dialogue box Settings is displayed to specify the settings.

The first time you start the Variant Editor, the default settings defined by the current HiCAD installation are automatically set. You can always recall these settings by selecting the Default button. |

Preferred directory for VAD files This directory is preset as a select directory when you open a Variant file. An optional automatic variant file processing in Additional directories is only possible if the currently variant was loaded from the preferred directory. See also Save Variant |
Additional directory for identical VAD files You can process variants, having the same name as the currently loaded variant, in up to three additional directories. Here you preset the z directories in which you look for the variants with the same name . See also Save Variant |
Extensions of supported variant types You can specify the file name extensions of HiCAD variant types, to be processed by the Variant Editor. |
Complete path to base variant definition file Specifies the file from which the definition of the base variant should be read. |
Directory for working file The Variant Editor creates the temporary working file in the directory specified here. When you load a variant, the contents of the VAD file is copied to a working file. All variant editing takes place in this file. The (edited) contents of a working file is only written back to the VAD file when the variant is saved. |
Directory for EMF files of standard variants The editor looks for the image files of simple variants in the directory specified here. |
Directory for EMF files of base variants The Variant Editor looks for the image files of structured variants in the directory specified here. |
Complete path to Online Help files Specifies the file from which the the Online Help should be read. Default: HICADVAR.CHM in HiCAD sub-directory EXE. |
Directory for data sheet files The Variant Editor looks for data sheet files in the directory specified here. |
Extensions of data sheet files The name extension of data sheet files is specified here (Generally pdf for Acrobat® Reader documents). |
Column separator(Hex) for import/export of text files The separator used to separate elements of a record in the appropriate text file is specified here. Select the desired separator from the listbox: TAB (default) or SPACE. If the desired character is not available in the listbox, you can determine it manually by entering the hexadecimal number of its ANSI code. |

Sort records by type designation when saving This setting ensures that records are sorted according to type designations when they are transferred to the VAD file from the processing file (i.e. when the variant is saved). Deactivate the specification, if you do not want to sort records. |
