Lengthen/Shorten (3-D SE)

Steel Engineering > Lengthen

You use the functions of this function group to

Change length

The beam length is changed by a defined value.

Change beam length, via new total length

The beam is lengthened or shortened by specifying the new total length.

Change beam length, to point

The beam is lengthened or shortened to an arbitrary 3-D point in the drawing.

Divide beam once, flush

The beam is divided by specifying the distance between the division point and the beam end.

Clicking opens a pull-down menu with further Divide functions:

Divide beam once, with clearance

Divides a beam into 2 segments, with clearance or overlap if required.

Divide beam several times, flush

Divides a beam into several segments of equal length. The division is made flush, i.e. without gaps between the segments.

Divide beam several times, with clearance

Divides a beam into several segments of equal length. The division is made with clearance, i.e. with gaps of a defined width between the segments.

Union

Divided beams are unioned again.

Please note:

The functions always lengthen/shorten the beam while retaining the geometry of the existing front contour to be moved. This means that no surfaces can be changed, removed or added on the front contour.

For example, the shortening of a beam will fail if the beam is to be shortened in such a way that its front intersects with a bore (see image below).

In such situations, use the Trim function instead, as it enables a genuine cutting of the beam to the selected surface /edge, independent of the existing geometry (processings in the front contour can also be applied beforehand).
