It is not essential to assign a P+ID symbol immediately to an actual part. It can however be assigned via the Article number dialogue in the symbol data mask. The item number creates a link to the part data source.
If the HELiOS database is active, it is recognised as the part data source. In HiCAD 3-D Plant Engineering, this setting is required to link a P+ID to the layout plan. Please refer to the HELiOS Online Help for detailed information.
Irrespective of the selected data source, Bills of Materials are always generated by the P+ID BOM Generator.

Please remember that an attribute code needs to be assigned to attributes defined in the database for P+ID BOMs.
