Errors While Saving Parts or Drawings

If you try to save a drawing or a 3-D part, and an error occurs that does not lead to a complete cancelling of the saving process, this error will not be ignored any more as was formerly the case. Instead, HiCAD will issue a corresponding message, and you will have the option to save the drawing or the part with a different name.

Saving of Drawings

Errors regarding the saving of

will lead to a cancelling of the saving process for non-interactive saving (saving of UNDO steps, switching of drawings, time-controlled data saving, saving of temporary changes, e.g. for model sets, VMRL and STL export etc.).

If errors occur during interactive saving via the user interface, an appropriate message will be issued. An error during saving of DBA3 files, for example, will lead to the following error message:

Attributes could not be saved.

followed by the query

Drawing could not be saved correctly.
Restore drawing and save with a different name?

If you select Cancel, the drawing will not be saved.

If you select No, the drawing will be saved with the displayed errors. If you select Yes, you will be prompted to specify a name for the drawing, followed by another attempt to save the drawing, while overwriting of the original drawing (or other, already existing drawings) will be prevented.

Errors regarding the saving of the polyhedron model (POM) are ignored, as the POM may be recreated during loading. Errors regarding the saving of hatching tables and colour tables are ignored, and the messages

Hatching table could not be saved!
Geometry data could however be saved.

or.

Colour table could not be saved!
Geometry data could however be saved.

, respectively, are issued.

Saving of 3-D Parts

If 3-D parts are saved non-interactively (UNDO, Feature, …, also applies to saving of reference parts!!), errors during the saving of non-geometric data will lead to a cancelling of the saving process.

When the saving takes place interactively, i.e. via the user interface, the error will be ignored during saving if the part is to be saved as a new KRA file; the message Part could not be saved correctly will be issued.

In contrast, if an already existing KRA file is to be overwritten, the following message will be issued:

Part could not be saved properly!
Restore part on data carrier and save with a different name?

If you select Cancel, the part will not be saved, and the Save error! message will be issued.

If you select No, the drawing will be saved with the displayed errors. If you select Yes, the message Original file restored ! will be issued, and you will be prompted to specify a name for the part, while overwriting of parts that already exist on the data carrier will be prevented.

If the next attempt to save the part leads to another error regarding the saving of non-geometric data, this error will be ignored after the message Part could not be saved properly has been issued.

As in previous versions, errors regarding the saving of geometry data will lead to a cancelling of the saving process.
