Basic Procedures (ManBIM)

When working with the Steel Engineering Drawing Management module you can choose between several procedures. It is your decision which one you prefer.

Completion of assemblies and drawing derivation in original drawing

Here you will process, itemize and save all assemblies in one drawing. You create derived drawings, grant releases etc. in the original drawing. This procedure is described in Example 1.

Simultaneous working with referenced assemblies

When working with very complex drawings, it can be useful to distribute the assemblies of the drawing among several workstations (Simultaneous/Concurrent Engineering.

Possibility 1: Completion of assemblies and drawing derivation in the detail drawings of the assemblies

Here you divide the original drawing into several suitable assemblies and save it, initially without itemizing the parts. Then, you save the assemblies of the drawing as externally referenced detail drawings. After this, processing, itemization and drawing derivation will not take place in the original drawing, but in the detail drawings of the assemblies. Due to the referencing, changes applied to the assemblies will, of course, also be applied to the original drawing. This procedure is described in Example 2.

Possibility 2: Completion of assemblies in separate drawings, and drawing derivation in original drawing

Here you divide the drawing into several suitable assemblies and save them, without itemization, as externally referenced parts. Then, you assign these referenced assemblies to different workstations, where they will be completed by the respective, responsible person. After completion of all assemblies, the original drawing will be updated. After this, itemization and drawing derivation will take place in the original assembly (as in Example 1).

Important:

  • When you perform drawing derivations with the Steel Engineering Drawing Management functions, the parameter Conditions for 'Drawing is up to date' in the Configuration Editor will be considered. This parameter determines when the "Drawing is up to date" link is to be set for drawing derivations. Further information can be found in the topic Configuration of Drawing Management.
  • Please also note that the Steel Engineering Drawing Management works in a project-related manner, i.e. the managed part are assigned unambiguously to a particular project. When inserting parts that you want to re-use for other projects, e.g. purchased parts, you must assign the article master manually. These parts will then be ignored by the automatisms of the Steel Engineering Drawing Management.
