User Interface Configuration

You can configure the entire User Interface, the Properties window and result lists according to your requirements.

Please also read the notes given in the Permission for UI changes section.

Configuration of the User Interface

The Project Explorer, Folder Explorer and Product Explorer usually contain structure trees as known from Windows. The projects are activated with a right-click. Projects whose names are preceded by a "+" contain sub-projects.

Double-clicking a project or a document opens a detail window containing the project master data, the document or article assignments. Right-click to open a context menu with various functions.

The position and size of the detail and search windows can be saved by a right-click on the window frame.

To sort the document list as well as all other lists (tables), click on the term of the list header, as you would do in Windows applications.

For multiple list item selection (projects, articles etc.), use the key combinations you know from Windows (SHIFT and CTRL key).

After selecting a list item, right-click to display the available processing functions (e.g. New project, Activate project, Show project etc.).

Use the View menu at the top right of the screen to modify the User Interface as required:

Function Description

This sub-menu enables you to Save... your current GUI configuration (specify a file name and the target directory; an .xml file will be created), Load a previously saved one, or Reset the GUI to the default configuration.

Enables you to hide and show the Project Explorer, Folder Explorer, Product Explorer and ToDo tabs on the left.

Furthermore, you can hide and show the freely draggable and dockable Detail, Graphics and Properties windows containing the corresponding data on the active/currently marked object in the Desktop. This is also useful if you are working with several screens, as these windows can also be dragged to a separate screen if desired.

Updates the Project Structure. Alternatively, you can use the F5 key.

Updates document and article lists. Alternatively, you can use the key combination CTRL+F5.

As an alternative to the buttons , you can also use these functions to close, minimise or maximise the detail windows.

If several detail windows are opened in the HELiOS Desktop, you can use this function to close/minimise/maximise them all at once.

Please note:

Configuration of the Properties window

To configure the display of attributes in the Properties window (Properties tab below the Project tree), right-click on the window. The following context menu will be displayed:

In the upper area of the context menu, you can Save the current configuration, or restore the default configuration with Reset. Select Change title at the top of the menu to change the title of the attribute field.

All attributes in the context menu that are checkmarked will be displayed. Click to add or remove the checkmarks. Select Configure to open a selection dialogue which is operated in the same way as the configuration dialogue for result lists.

Permission for UI changes

For all changes to the UI (except for the changing of column widths) the UI configuration permission must have been assigned to the logged on user in the User Management (or Group Management) of the EDBSETUP tool. Otherwise, he/she will have no permission to change the UI.

The permission for the UI configuration comprises the moving of result list columns, structuring of lists and the Properties window (select which attributes are to be displayed, configuration via right-click), and the functions Manage result list templates, Adjust result list and Adjust report settings.

Users who have not been granted this permission, will not have access to the corresponding context menu functions.

The saving of column widths of result lists and in the Properties window (Description column) remains unaffected by this permission. To save the column widths , right-click the column header and select Save.
