Multi-Part Beam, From Sketch (3-D SE)

Steel Engineering > New > Standard > Multi-part beam from sketch

Use this function to derive a multi-part beam from a sketch that exists in the current drawing.

If the sketch is made up of several closed elements, you need to create a superordinate 3-D dummy part for the sketch before selecting the function.

Proceed as follows:

  1. Create the corresponding sketch, if required. When drawing the sketch, note that the distance of the sketch from the coordinate system is crucial for the subsequent position of the fitted beam. The beam is fitted at the same distance from the xy plane as that between the sketch and the origin of the coordinate system. The beam axis is always placed in the coordinate origin.
  2. If the sketch is made up of several closed elements, create a superordinate 3-D dummy part for the sketch. In the ICN, drag the sketch below this dummy part.
  3. Select the Multi-part beam from sketch function.
  4. Identify the dummy part containing the sketches (preferably in the ICN, as this is the fastest method).
  5. Specify whether the sketch is to be deleted after the creation of the beam.
  6. Specify the start point of the beam axis.
  7. The actual fitting dialogue then begins. This is similar to that for fitting standard beams. Choose the desired fitting options, specify the start point and, if applicable, the end point of the beam.
