Fitting Options - Fit in Plane (3-D SE)

Steel Engineering > New > New > Insert new standard beam

The Fit in plane option allows you to fit the beam to the active processing plane. This is the default setting if none of the other fitting types is active

This option then provides the following ways of fitting the beam:

Insert with sketch

Sketch technology is used to fit the beam. From the start point, HiCAD automatically fades in auxiliary lines along a predefined grid and displays the relevant angles and distances at the cursor. On this grid, you can then click the mouse, for example, to define the direction and length of a line by means of corresponding cursor movements.

Fit beam via point and length

The beam is fitted by defining the start point and specifying a point in longitudinal direction of the beam.

  1. Enter the value for the beam length, and either press ENTER or left-click to conclude the value input
  2. Define the start point. HiCAD drops a perpendicular to the processing plane and fits the beam there.
  3. To define the direction of the beam,
  4. identify a point in longitudinal direction or
  5. choose END (right mouse button) to adopt the direction of the beam that was last fitted. The prerequisite is that you have not exited the function in the meantime.

Fit beam via 2 points

The beam is fitted by specifying the start and end points. The position of the beam is defined by the start point, length and direction by the end point. If this option is active, the input field for the length is blocked.

  1. Activate the option.
  2. Define the start point. HiCAD drops a perpendicular to the processing plane and fits the beam there
  3. To define length and direction of the beam,
  4. use the cursor to identify the end point or
  5. choose END (RMB) to adopt the direction of the beam that was last fitted. The prerequisite is that you have not exited the function in the meantime, or
  6. use a different point option, e.g. Relative R, to define the end point .
