Save STEP File

> Save as > 3-D formats (Step...)

To save the current drawing or the active part to a STEP file, proceed as follows:

1. Click the ISD Button and select Save as > 3-D formats (Step...), or activate the Drawing tab and select Save/Print > SaveAs > 3-D formats (Step...).
2. The Write STEP dialogue window is displayed. Specify in the Parts to be exported field whether you want to export the complete drawing (All) or only the active part or part list (Selection list). Moreover, you have the following setting options: 

• Transfer thread body: By default, thread bodies are not transferred. Activate the As separate parts or the United with parent part checkboxes to specify whether you want to export the thread bodies as separate parts or embedded in the drawing.
• Break up part hierarchy: If you do not want to transfer the part hierarchy during export, activate this checkbox.
• Split up unconnected parts: This checkbox is active by default. The hierarchy of parts in a drawing, without any geometrical relations to each other, will be removed if you deactivate this checkbox.
• Transfer layers
• Transfer colours
• Unite sheets: Select this option if you want to unite all sub-parts of a sheet with the superordinate main part for export.

3. Select the file path and enter the file name.
4. If you exit the window with OK , the STEP file with the specified settings and the file extension .STP is generated.

When saving a STEP file HiCAD generates the following files:
