Use Guideline Route to Narrow Down Part Selection
If you use the HELiOS PDM system as your parts data source, then you have the option of using the route of the guideline to restrict the parts selection. The following attributes are available for this purpose, which are evaluated during part insertion.
Attribute name |
Designation |
---|---|
PLANE_RESTRICTION |
Bending plane |
BENDING_RESTRICTION |
Bending direction |
VEERING_RESTRICTION |
Horizontal bending direction |
If the route of the guideline at the insertion position does not match the attribute value of the part to be inserted, this part is ignored.
Both attributes are useful to limit with more extensive pipe classes the part selection with the insertion as far as possible, so that this becomes clearer and no more search mask appears.
Please note:
These attributes are currently not used in any of the part variants delivered by the ISD; accordingly, the HELiOS masks delivered do not contain these attributes either. If you want to use these attributes, you have to extend the HELiOS masks accordingly with the Mask Editor.
PLANE_RESTRICTION - Bending plane
The PLANE_RESTRICTION attribute knows the following values:
0 |
no restriction |
1 |
Offer part for selection only if the bend or branch of the guideline at the insertion position - related to the world coordinate system - is horizontal.. |
2 |
Offer part for selection only if the kink or branch of the guideline at the insertion position - in relation to the world coordinate system - is vertical. |
This attribute is currently only evaluated for T-pieces.
Example 2 - PLANE_RESTRICTION
BENDING_RESTRICTION - Bending direction
The attribute BENDING_RESTRICTION knows the following values:
0 |
no restriction |
1 |
Offer part for selection only if the bend of the guideline bends upwards - with respect to the world coordinate system.. |
2 |
Offer part for selection only if the bend of the guideline bends downwards - in relation to the world coordinate system. |
This attribute is currently evaluated only for parts of the type Knee.
Example - BENDING_RESTRICTION
The BENDING_RESTRICTION attribute has been added to the part master mask for parts of the type Knee in this example.
In the example we use the variant KNIE.VAA entered in the database.
In the following image, the corners of the guideline have been assigned with parts of the type Knee (variant KNIE.VAA). The image shows the difference of the different settings for the bending direction.
If the attribute BENDING_RESTRICTION has the value 0, the knee is offered for selection at all corners of the guideline - with value 1 only at the corners bending upwards and with value 2 only at the corners bending downwards.
VEERING_RESTRICTION - Horizontal bending direction
The VEERING_RESTRICTION attribute knows the following values:
0 |
no restriction, treated like regular knee; in this case, however, the attribute should simply be left unassigned, which has the same meaning. Not used in search conditions. |
1 |
only allowed to the right |
2 |
only allowed to the left |
3 |
symmetrical; allowed to the left or right |
The only part type whose insertion is affected by the attribute is the Knee.
Example - VEERING_RESTRICTION
In the following example, a simple composite edge has been automatically assigned two knees. The flow direction is from left to right.
When searching for a suitable knee for bends to the left, HiCAD adds the following condition to the HELiOS search:
VEERING_RESTRICTION = ''\'3*'\'2*''
This means that only parts that do not have VEERING_RESTRICTION, are symmetrical or bend to the left will be found.
In the above example, the yellow knee was found and fitted.
When searching for a suitable knee for bends to the right, the following condition was added to the HELiOS search:
VEERING_RESTRICTION = ''\'3*'\'1*''
This means that only parts that do not have VEERING_RESTRICTION, are symmetric or bend to the right will be found.
In the above example, the green knee was found and installed.
For symmetrical parts, one would like to be able to additionally express that these can be used for both left and right bends, which at the same time implies that these parts may also be installed against the flow direction (namely for left bends).
In the following example, the same composite edge has been fitted with a part whose VEERING_RESTRICTION has the value 3:
Note that for the bend to the left the order of the connection points is switched , so the part was installed against the flow direction running from left to right.
To use a custom variant with VEERING_RESTRICTION, this attribute must be assigned in the VAA file. The knees follow the usual design guidelines for knees. For the above examples, the variants look as follows:
