Model Views and Sheet Views

The view structure of the current drawing is displayed on the Views tab of the Information + Communication Navigator (ICN), with HiCAD distinguishing between model views (1) and sheet views (2).

Sheet views and sheet areas

Sheet views are used to display the production drawings that are derived automatically from the 3-D model. HiCAD enables you to define several sheet areas and hence to output production drawings on several sheets. You can use the standard view functions in the individual sheet areas and sheet views. We should emphasize that you can also use genuine 3-D views for displaying the production drawings from 3-D models.

Model views

Model views are genuine 3-D views, e.g. any detail and sectional views, cut-outs in any depth and direction, list views with particular assemblies or parts and so on. This does not alter the position of the views in the sheet area.

Associativity

In HiCAD all views are associative. This means that changes to the production drawing are automatically transferred to to the 3-D model and vice versa. You can therefore switch as required between the model and sheet views.

 

Automatically expand sheet area in ICN
In the ICN settings for views, the Follow the active view checkbox can be used to control whether or not the corresponding sheet area is automatically expanded in the ICN view window when a sheet view is selected. If the checkbox is active, the sheet area is expanded. This is the default setting.

 

Please note:

• A maximum of 9998 sheet areas and views can be created. The model area is included in the number of sheet areas.

• When a new model drawing is created, a model view and a sheet view are automatically created. The projection set in the Start Centre is used as the view projection for the model view and the top view for the sheet view.

• In the ICN, you can use drag & drop to move views from the model area to the sheet area and vice versa. To do this, left-click the desired view in the ICN, hold the mouse button down and drag the view to the Sheet or Model entry. You can also use the standard Windows multiple selection here (CTRL or SHIFT key).

• You can choose a different background for model and sheet views. To do this, click the icon, then select Colour Settings > Graphics Window.
• To switch from the Model area to one of the Sheet... areas or vice versa, simply click the corresponding item in the ICN.
