Update Derived Drawing

Drawing > Itemisation/Detailing > Derive > Update derived drawing

Use this function to update already existing derived drawings after applying changes to the model drawing. Furthermore, updating a derived drawing enables you to close gaps in the model drawing which can, for instance, occur when superfluous views have been deleted.

When you call the function, the Update derived drawing dialogue window will be displayed:

  1. Select the sheet you want to update from the Sheet selection list box. If you only want to update the active sheet, select Active sheet. If you want to update all sheets, select All.
  2. In the Part selection section, specify which parts you would like to take into account for the updating:
  1. Specify additional settings by activating/deactivating the checkboxes.

Tags (e.g. the diameter of standard bores) have an absolutely set base point in the workshop drawing. If the bore is moved, the base point will remain in the original position and the position of the base point will no longer match the bore. This may create situations where tags point to the wrong bore.

Rearrange views
AutoSync sectional views

Via the AutoSync sectional views checkbox you can specify how to handle sectional views that are still missing, and sectional views that are no longer needed. If you activate the checkbox, the following will happen:

After the adding of new attached parts in the model drawing, the corresponding missing sectional views will be generated automatically.

After the deletion of attached parts in the model drawing, the corresponding superfluous sectional views will be deleted automatically.

Example

Rearrange dimensions and annotations

If you have manually created or arranged dimensions or annotations in drawings, you can specify that these dimensions/annotations and their arrangement will be retained when the drawing is updated by deactivating the Rearrange dimensions and annotations checkbox. However, the contents will automatically be corrected if necessary.

Keeping the dimensions/annotations can only work if the Adjust scale to frame size checkbox is inactive in the drawing derivation.

Please also note the following:
Processing the drawing manually may result in creation or omission of new dimension base points or annotations in the drawing. In such cases, it is not possible to retain the corresponding dimensions and annotations. This means that these dimensions and annotations will be newly created when the drawing is updated and you must subsequently adjust them again accordingly.

  1. To carry out the update, exit the window with OK. If you have activated the Select individual entry under Part selection, HiCAD will prompt you to identify the desired steel component.

Rearrange bills of materials (BOMs)

BOMs that are aligned to the drawing frame (option Quantity list in drawing frame.../Structure list in drawing frame...) are only rearranged when updating derived drawings if the views are also rearranged. This means that the checkbox Rearrange views must be active.

If no rearrangement takes place, HiCAD still ensures that the fixed point of the BOM corresponds to the settings of the drawing derivation.

Example:

If the BOM is arranged in the top right corner, then the top right corner of the BOM will still be in the top right corner of the view frame. If the BOM has become longer or wider, then - to ensure this - it is moved if necessary.

Please note:

When adding view groups on drawing sheets with already existing views from a drawing derivation, you have also the option to prevent the rearranging of the views if desired. In the Configuration Editor, select PDM > Automatic drawing derivation > Production drawing, and set the parameter Rearrange views when updating PDM-managed drawings as desired. Default setting is 1 (rearrange).

More specifically the procedure will be as follows as of HiCAD 2017 SP1:

If this message should no longer be displayed during the current HiCAD session, please activate the Suppress message checkbox.

If you do not want this behaviour you have the possibility to turn it off in the Configuration Editor under System Settings > Annotations > Dimensioning, 3-D by deactivating the Rework when deleting workshop drawing dimensions checkbox. This is recommendable if a loss of performance can be noted in workshop drawings with many views.

The new behaviour only works with workshop drawings created in or updated in HiCAD 2017 SP1!

Please note:

If you move a view from one sheet of the workshop drawing to another (via Drag & Drop), HiCAD will issue the following message:

After performing the action, the corresponding views will no longer be considered for the updating of the workshop drawing.
