Exchange Symbol
P+ID > Symbol > Edit >...
You can replace a symbol on a P+ID drawing sheet with the copy of a reference symbol, or replace it via the symbol selection menu. Furthermore, you have the option to replace all identical symbols that are located within a defined selection rectangle, or all identical symbols on the entire sheet.
Accordingly, the following options are available:
|
Exchange, via reference - Individual Exchange, via symbol selection menu - Individual |
If the exchange is valid, the selected symbol is replaced. |
|
Exchange, via reference - In rectangle Exchange, via symbol selection menu - In rectangle |
This option enables you to draw a rectangular box by specifying two points with the cross-hairs. All symbols within this box matching the selected symbol are replaced. HiCAD then highlights these symbols. If required, the highlighting can be retained until the next time the screen content is redrawn. |
|
Exchange, via reference - Sheet Exchange, via symbol selection menu - Sheet |
This option exchanges all symbols on the current drawing sheet that match the currently selected symbol. HiCAD tells you how many symbols have been replaced and then highlights them. If required, the highlighting can be retained until the next time the screen content is redrawn. |
Exchange with reference symbol
If the required reference symbol is not on the sheet, load it first using the Load symbol function. You can then process it further until it has the required shape. Now you can select the Exchange symbol function.
- When Select reference symbol message appears, select the reference symbol with the cross-hairs. Then, select a symbol that you want to replace by a copy of the reference symbol.
- You can now specify whether or not the reference symbol should be deleted.
Requirements for symbol exchange
Symbol exchange is only possible if both the reference symbol or the symbol selection and the symbol you want to replace fulfil the following conditions:
- Both symbols must be of the same type
- The code must have the same identification character
- When a symbol is placed on a connection, HiCAD checks to see if a direction of flow has been specified and, when applicable, if it matches the selected direction of insertion. If this is not the case, HiCAD mirrors the symbol about the perpendicular bisector of the vector between the two pipe connecting points. However, the connecting points and dialogue text points are not mirrored. This means that the direction of flow determined for the symbol is automatically reversed. If the dialogue text for Flow direction dialogue was "1" (= Direction of flow from 1st to 2nd pipe connection) it is now set to "2" (=Direction of flow from 2nd to 1st pipe connection) – or vice versa. Only symbols with two pipe connection can be processed in this way.
However: A flow direction plausibility check is not carried out for pipe connections (e.g. no check on T-pieces, to make sure in-flow AND out-flow is assured) on symbols with more than two connections.
The options In rectangle and Sheet replace the symbol currently selected for exchange, plus all matching symbols in a given rectangle or on the active sheet. In this case, they must:
- Originate from the same library,
- Possess the same 0-symbol (conditions only apply to general type symbols),
- fulfil the connection-related conditions specified above.
