Working with the HELiOS Database Masks
You can use the mouse or the keyboard to operate the HELiOS database masks.
- Field identification
Depending on the system setting, fields are indicated by diverse colours. Windows standard default colours are:
- White fields with black texts for active input fields,
- Grey fields are frozen - you cannot enter or edit data.
- Text input
Basically, all digits and characters, including umlaut and special characters, can be used when entering data.
Note on decimal separators: Decimal separators may differ from country to country: In some countries the comma (,) is used, in others the dot (.). In order to meet the requirements of international work, HELiOS always allows both for entries of the data type FLOAT!
- Object search
The search function is designed in an identical way for all objects, no matter whether you search for documents, articles or projects. Restrict the search result with the input of specific features, such as index, material etc.
If one or several fields are empty, all values are valid. But if * is used as a search criterion, only documents with an entry in this field appear in the result list.
The following operators for object search are allowed:

Please note that if you use operators, you need to place the text in inverted commas e.g. 'Z' & 'T'.
You can also use jn search forms with the asterisk * and the underscore _ (as a placeholder for exactly one more character) as character placeholders.
If a matching document cannot be found, a corresponding message will be displayed. The mask remains active, thus enabling you to enter new constraints.
Use the ESC key to stop the loading of database entries. The result list will be shown to the point it was finished until you stopped the process. Continue the search by selecting Start search again.
As the search window remains open, you are enabled to modify the constraints and start a new search.
Double-click on an object in the search results to display its master data. You can also mark several objects with the CTRL or SHIFT key (as in Windows) and to call the edit functions via the RMB.
The following functions are available in all search masks:
- Start search: The search will be started according to the search criteria entered.
- Initialise: All entries in the search mask will be deleted.
- Print list: The search result will be printed.
- Apply: The marked entry will be taken over, e.g. the marked document will be loaded.
You can use the arrow keys of your keyboard to scroll through result lists, but also the End key to jump to the end of the result list (if the list is very long and in the process of building up, you will jump to the lowermost list item), the Pos1 key to jump to the first list item, and the Page up and Page down keys to jump to the top/bottom of the current detail on the screen. A similar principle applies to detail mask tabs. If the current focus is on a tab, you can not only use the arrow keys to switch to the next tab on the left or right, but also use the Home and End keys to jump to the first or last tab.
Attribute values in the Properties window of the HELiOS Desktop can now be marked with the cursor and copied to the clipboard via the Copy function of the context menu or via CTRL+C. Choosing the Paste function of the context menu or CTRL+V pastes them into other documents (E-mails, Office documents etc.).
