Overview of Functions

The functions for Drawing Management can be found on the Drawing Management Ribbon tab. If this tab does not appear on the Ribbon, select Settings

> Ribbon categories and activate the Drawing Management checkbox.

The tab is made up of the following function groups:

Project	Create, activate, edit projects
Drawing	Create, load, save drawings; reference of parts
Parts	Itemisation and deriving of parts and assemblies
Workshop	Create, update and add production and detail drawings; check and release production and detail drawings; change already released drawings
Drawings	Create, check and release mounting drawings and customer drawings
Production	BOM generation; export of parts and drawings
HELiOS PDM	Find/open linked (model) drawings and files that are linked to the active part.
Information	Checks the active assembly for BOM- and production-relevant parts and invalid article masters

Tip:

When using the Drawing Management module for the management of your CAD data, please always use only the PDM functions on the Drawing Management Ribbon tab! For a changing of the Workflow status of documents and articles managed with Drawing Management, too, only the functions of the Drawing Management Ribbon tab may be used! The HELiOS functions should only be used for a viewing of the corresponding documents and articles, but not for their editing (e.g. item numbers, article masters, Workflow status etc.)!

In contrast, external data, such as Word documents, E-mails, documents by architects etc. can be managed freely.

Please note:

HELiOS article master; document master and project for drawings
All Drawing Management functions require that the corresponding HiCAD model drawing has been saved to HELiOS withan article and document master, and that it has been assigned to a project.

If the Drawing Management functionality in HiCAD is active, the HELiOS functions for the saving of drawings without article master are inactive. Newly created HELiOS items must always have a article master and document master and need to be assigned to a project.

Article numbers and item numbers of parts
Besides the identification of parts via article numbers, as is usual in mechanical engineering, the Drawing Management functionality additionally manages an item number (integer number) and an item number text in the article master. These can be used for the retrieval of parts and the documents linked to them. The identification of the parts via "project number + item number + index (optional)", as is frequently used in civil engineering, is thus also supported by the Drawing Management.
