Divide Beams

Steel Engineering > Lengthen > Divide

The functions of this menu enable you to divide a beam once and flush, by specifying the distance of the division from the beam end. Proceed as follows:

  1. Identify the beam in the vicinity of the reference end.
  2. Specify the distance of the division from this beam end. The distance of the division is preset to half the beam length.
  3. Enter the desired value, and exit the window with OK.

Clicking opens a pull-down menu with further functions:

  1. Identify the beam near the reference end
  2. Enter the value for the clearance/the overlap. If you enter a positive value, the beam is divided with a clearance and, if you enter a negative value, it is divided with an overlap.
  3. As with flush division, enter the division distance from the reference end.

Dividing a beam into several beams of equal size, which adjoin one another without gaps.

Specify the number of beam segments.

Multiple, equidistant division of a beam with a defined clearance between two beam segments:

  1. Specify the number of beams.
  2. Enter the value for the clearance/overlap
  3. Enter the division distance from the reference end

The beam is divided into beams of the same size. The position of the clearance/overlap results from:

division distance ± 1/2 the size of the clearance/overlap.

Divide along direction

This function allows parts to be divided into several sections along one direction. Different division options are available, for example, the individual parts can have different lengths. In addition, a corresponding feature is created for this function so that the division can also be edited later. The function is not only applicable to steel parts but to all 3D solids.

This function can also be found at 3-D Standard > Process > Trim.

(1) Original beam with division direction, (2) Divided once and flush, (3) Divided once, with gap, (4) Divided several times, with gaps, (5) Divided along direction, with gapsand different individual lengths

Bolts and sub-parts of a beam are assigned to one of the two newly created parts. A sub-part such as a plate is assigned to the closest main part.
