Edit and Process Parts and Assemblies
You can use both the functions of the Ribbon and those of the context menus for the editing and processing of parts.
- Functions of the Ribbon
The Ribbon functions generally always refer to the active part. If you therefore want to use these functions to edit a part, you need to make sure that the part is also active.
To activate a part, point the cursor to the desired part. The part is highlighted in colour (default: magenta) and, if you left-click, it becomes the active part. Alternatively, you can also activate the part in the ICN.
To process the active part, click the required function in the toolbar. Alternatively, you can also right-click the part and select the desired function from the context menu.
- Functions of the context menu
To activate a context menu containing the editing functions, you only need to right-click the part to be processed in Object snap mode. The relevant context menu is displayed and the part automatically becomes the active part. The context menu contains all the editing functions relevant to the selected part.
If, for example, you have selected a sketch, the editing functions for sketches are displayed. If you have clicked a solid, the editing functions for solids are displayed etc. Other construction objects such as dimensionings, views or processing planes can also be edited in this way.
Please note the following:
- If a 3-D bill of materials is active, the context menu contains only the editing functions for bills of materials.
- If you want to edit individual elements of a part, e.g. lines, edges or surfaces, switch to Element snap mode. If you then right-click the relevant element, the context menu displays the functions for editing this element.
Please also note:
- New and processed
3-D parts of the current drawing are marked by
in the ICN. When you next save the drawing, this marking is removed again. Therefore, when exiting HiCAD or closing a drawing, make sure you check whether the part structure contains parts marked with
. This indicates that the current version of the drawing has not yet been saved.
- The name of the active part is displayed in the status information line and highlighted in red font in the ICN.
- You can also edit other objects like dimensionings, views etc. via context menus. To activate the context menus, simply right-click the relevant object.
- Assemblies and parts of a main assembly can normally not be moved out of the main assembly. If you want to change this, open the Configuration Editor and select Modelling > Change of part structure and activate the Moving of parts out of main assembly allowed checkbox.
