Project: Variant Editor

Variant Editor for Plant Engineering

Plant Engineering > Part Data Tools > Variant Editor

Important:

Since Version 2012, HiCAD has been using the format .VAA for Plant Engineering variants. As of Version 2013, general variants, too, can be created in this archive format.

In Version 2013, the previous Variant Editor, ANVAREDIT.EXE, has therefore been renamed to VariantenEditor.exe.

For Plant Engineering variants created with HiCAD 2012 or higher, and for general variants in the :VAA format please use only this new Editor.

For old variants, the previous functionality of the Variant Editor is still available, but under the name VAD_Editor.EXE.

We have designed the HiCAD Variant Editor to support the processing of value tables in variants (.VAA, .VAD) created with HiCAD. The Variant Editor also enables you to derive new variants, with different content in the value table and name, from an existing variant. The Editor automatically processes files belonging to these variants.

You can derive a particularly wide range of variants from structured variants. In this case, you simply press a button to toggle part elements on or off, transfer variable values from one element to another and much more.

Structured base variants are, for example, used for valves in HiCAD Plant Engineering.

You can import records (in whole or in part) from variant value tables of other variants or text files; whereby assignments between columns in the source and the target table can be specified. It is also possible to make automatic assignments, based on the variable names creating column headings.

It is also possible to export the value table of a variant as a text file.

You can start the Variant Editor from HiCAD or externally.

Start the application VariantenEditor.exe in the HiCAD EXE subdirectory.
