Edit Symbol Selection List

P+ID > Settings > Edit symbol selection list

When you invoke the Insert symbol function, HiCAD initially displays a selection list enabling you to select the category of symbol required. A pop-up menu containing all appropriate symbols then appears on your screen. Selection lists and pop-up menus can be easily changed to suit your current task.

Select the Edit symbol selection list function to edit the list.

The illustrated dialogue box is displayed when you invoke the function. A row in the dialogue box exists for each entry in the symbol selection list with which a pop-up menu can be called.

The text in the Designation column is displayed in the selection list and the identification number of the assigned pop-up menu in the Menu No. column. An active check box in the 0-Sym. column indicates a 0-symbol.

The buttons on the lower part of the dialogue box call the processing functions described in the next section.

Insert row

Select this button to insert a new row in the symbol selection list.

Example: Let us assume that you want to create a new pop-up menu for a special vessel, and that the corresponding entries should be inserted between the entries with the designations Vessel and Filter/Separator, you need to take the following actions:

Click the Filter/Separator input field. HiCAD highlights the appropriate row.

Click Insert row and then New menu No. HiCAD inserts a new row and generates an identifier for the new pop-up menu.

Overwrite the three question marks with the words Special vessel. This text is taken over in the title block of the new pop-up menu.

Delete row

Select this button to delete a row from the symbol selection list and the associated pop-up menu file.

Example: Let us assume that you want to delete Transport from the selection list and also delete the associated pop-up menu, you need to:

Select Transport.
Select the Delete row button.

Respond with Yes to delete the pop-up menu.

Important:

HiCAD deletes the pop-up menu immediately – it is not restored if you exit the dialogue box with Cancel!

New menu No.

If the active line is empty (i.e. if 0 is entered in the Menu No. column), select this button to create a new identification number. When you exit the dialogue box with OK, HiCAD generates a number that has not been assigned to an existing pop-up menu. If text has yet to be specified for the designation column, three question marks are displayed.

Cancel

Click this button to exit the dialogue box without taking over edits. Please remember: deleted pop-up menus cannot be re-stored.

Click OK to exit the dialogue box and take over all changes. If you have entered a new menu number, HiCAD asks:

Create missing pop-up menu files?

If you respond with Yes, HiCAD then generates a new pop-up menu number.

Designation

If you change the text in the Designation column, it influences entries in the selection list, but not the title block of the allocated pop-up menu. Designation text is only taken over in the title block when you generate a new menu. Use the Symbol pop-up menu function to change the text in the title block .
