Insert Edges

You use this function to insert free edges into the active part. A so-called "free edge" is an edge that connects two points with each other, and is no surface or solid edge. Examples of free edges are the edges of a sketch or a 3-D sketch. While a free edge cannot be part of a solid, it can still be used, for instance, to represent a symmetry axis within a solid.

Copy edges

Use this function to copy edges from any part into the active part. Select the required edges. These will be highlighted (Marking colour 5). Start the copying of the highlighted edges by pressing the middle mouse button.

During edge selection you can right-click and open a context menu with further functions:

Connected lines or edges*

Use this function to select all lines or edges that are connected to the next identified edge in one step. The lines and edges will be selected up to a point where a continuation would no longer be unambiguous. This does not apply to the edges of a solid.

This function can also be activated with the help of the SHIFT key: If you select a line while holding down the SHIFT key, all connected lines will be automatically selected as well.

Tangentially connected lines or edges*

Choose this function if you also want to select all tangentially connected lines or edges when identifying the next line or edge.

Surface boundary*

Use this function to select all edges forming the boundaries of a facet in one step. Select the desired facet with the cursor or select it by identifying two edges. These can also be edges of a solid or of a part with free surfaces.

Surface boundary cycle*

Use this function to select surface boundary that you determine by identifying one or two of its edges. These may also be edges of a solid, or of a part with free edges.

All lines or edges of part

Use this function to copy all lines or edges from any 3-D part into the active part. You can choose the part in the ICN or in the drawing.

Important notes on the selection functions:

Normally, already selected lines and edges will be de-selected if you click them again. For the above functions marked with an asterisk *, however, the following applies: If you click lines that have already been selected these lines will not be removed from the selection!

New, Insert polyline

Specify the start and end points and any next points. Right-click to end the function. The created polyline will receive a Feature log entry called Isolated edges.

New, Insert free edges, with vector menu

You use this function to activate the vector menu. This menu provides additional edge creation options which are the same as the identically named functions in the Move, edges menu.

Copy, from part

You use this function to copy edges from any part to the active part.

Choose whether you want all edge types (1) or only free edges (2) to be taken into account.
Enter the name of the part whose edges you want to copy.
Next, specify more part names or choose END to end the function.

A Feature called Isolated edges will be added in the Feature log when you use one of the above functions. It contains the inserted edges.

Important:

Assemblies and main assemblies are not allowed as target parts.
