Auxiliary Lines

2-D Geometry > CAids > Auxiliary line

Auxiliary lines and Grids support you during construction. They always lie in the screen plane. You will find the Auxiliary line menu in the CAids (short for "Construction Aids") function group of the 2-D Geometry tab.

The 2-D part functions (transform, clone, ...) do not take the auxiliary lines into account. In all other functions (e.g. trim, move point, ...) that refer to individual lines, the auxiliary lines behave like normal graphical elements. Filleting and chamfering are an exception. You cannot fillet or chamfer auxiliary lines.

The pre-settings for lengths and colours of auxiliary lines can be made in the Configuration Editor, at System settings > 2-D Lines.

Auxiliary lines

By identifying a point, you use this function to generate an auxiliary line that runs horizontally over the drawing surface.

Pull-down menu Auxiliary line

By identifying a point, you use this function to generate an auxiliary line that runs vertically over the drawing surface.

By using the point options to identify two points, you set an auxiliary line that runs over the drawing surface.

Entering the distance and identifying a reference line generate a parallel auxiliary line over the entire drawing surface. The auxiliary line appears on the identified side of the reference line.

The tangential auxiliary line appears horizontally on the drawing surface once the circle has been identified. The circle identification defines the side.

The tangential auxiliary line appears vertically on the drawing surface once the circle has been identified. The circle identification defines the side.

This function generates auxiliary lines that run horizontally rightwards from the identified point. You can use this function, for example, to derive the side view from the front view of a part.

This function generates auxiliary lines that run leftwards from the identified point.

This function generates auxiliary lines that run vertically upwards from the identified point.

This function generates auxiliary lines that run vertically downwards from the identified point.

Identifying a point and entering an angle of direction enable this function to generate an auxiliary line.

The tangential auxiliary line appears in identification proximity on the drawing surface once the circle has been identified and the angle entered.

Circular auxiliary lines are defined by the centre point and radius.
