Part Dimensioning

2-D Dimensioning + Text > Edit > Extras > Part 

The automatic part dimensioning makes dimensioning proposals for the active part.

  1. After calling the function, activate the Dimension part in the menu that appears.
  2. Then select the geometry type for part dimensioning.

Select General or Closed contour if you want to dimension unsymmetrical contours. Use Hollow shaft or Shaft to dimension symmetrical contours. In the case of contours, HiCAD asks you to identify a contour point. You can also use the Geometry type function to define the geometry type before calling the Dimension part function.

  1. After selecting the geometry type (and, if applicable, specifying a contour point), you can modify the parameters (see below). If you do not want the parameters to be changed, select No.


Settings in the Menu

Geometry type
Choose this function to assign the geometry type to a part before part dimensioning. If you then choose the Dimension part function, there is no contour point prompt.

Save parameters, tmp./ Restore parameters

The Save parameters, tmp. function enables you to temporarily save the current settings that you set using the Modify parameters function. The Restore parameters function enables you to restore the parameters that you last saved using the Save parameters, tmp.function

 

Delete dimensioning

This function deletes all dimensioning units of the identified part in one step.

 

Default parameters

The default parameters stored in the file AUBEMPAR.DAT can be loaded using this function.

 

Save parameters / Delete parameters

The Save parameters function enables you to save the current parameter settings in the part. The Delete parameters function enables you to remove these settings again. This function also enables you to revoke the assignment of a geometry type to a part.

 

Information

The active part is highlighted in colour, and the coordinates are displayed.

 

Modify parameters

You use this function to modify the following parameters of part dimensioning:

Function

Description

This function enables you to make any changes you want to the position of the reference point with respect to the part for dimensioning in x and y direction. You can choose between left, centre line, right or the graphical definition of an independent point.

This function defines the smallest unit to be dimensioned. The default setting is 0.1.

The direction of the dimension lines is defined here. The default setting is x and y direction.

This function enables you to specify different dimensioning types in x direction and y direction for linear dimensions.

You can define the following here:

  • the minimum distance of the dimension chain from the part,
  • the minimum distance of the dimension lines from one another and
  • the shortening of the leader lines.

You use this function to specify the preference side for the dimensionings in x or y direction.

This function enables you to suppress the entire dimensions in x or y direction.

You can choose whether to switch angular dimensioning on or off.

This function enables you to specify the position of the dimension arrows for radius dimensions. In addition, you can deactivate circular dimensioning.

Here, you define whether to dimension all points or only those on the preference side.

If an edge consists of several segments, you can choose here whether to dimension the start and end points of the segments. You can specify these settings separately for dimensionings in x and y directions.

This function enables you to set the dimensioning for points at tangential transitions.

This function enables you to suppress the dimensioning of chamfers and countersinks on sheets or specify a limit value for the dimensioning.

Here, you can set how you want the contour to be identified.

Contour/Edge Filters

You can exclude contours and edges that have particular line attributes from automatic dimensioning. To do this, you need to edit the file AUBEMPAR.DAT in subdirectory sys accordingly.

You can define up to 10 attributes for each of the colour, line type and layer attribute types.

Example:

The entry 4,5 for line types ignores all contours/edges containing at least one graphical element with line type 4 or 5. The HiCAD colour 0 (white) is always taken into account!
