If you right-click the main part item in the feature log of a design variant, you will find the Break up variant function in the context menu. This function deletes all dependencies and relations between parts within a design variant, in order to convert the variant back into a "normal" part construction. Changes applied to individual parts will then no longer have any effect on the entire drawing. .
It makes sense to break up a variant if you need to manually modify or move one of its parts, but do not want this change to affect the rest of the variant (e.g. if you want to move only one part, but retain the position of the entire variant).
Please note:
In practice it is often desirable that, for instance, stairs or railings that were created with the HiCAD Configurators in the Steel Engineering module can be reworked manually. For this to happen, it is necessary to break up the corresponding API and Design Variants to enable a further processing of the stair and railing components with the Steel Engineering functions. For such purposes the breaking up must normally be performed multiple times, as a simple one-time break-up of API and Design Variants only leads to an internal "unlinking" of parts from each other. When you choose Break up variant again, you will obtain the Feature log that was created via the API as a result of the API variant creation. Please also read the information given at: Break Up Variant - Example: Railing.
