Pipe Parts: Fasteners (PE)

Fasteners are parts that are required for the connecting of certain pipe parts to pipelines, but do not occupy any insertion length between the connected parts on the guideline.

Fastener, symmetric

Plant Engineering > New > Pipe parts > Fastener, symmetric

The part type Fastener, symmetric is intended for parts that have a symmetric shape and directly connect two parts without being assigned to one of the parts.

One example is the flange piping with pull-ring connectors by the company Jacob. The pull-rings that have been modelled with HiCAD are classified as fasteners (here: simplified, without the actual pull-ring device):

The following insertion options for fasteners are available:

For flange connections you can additionally insert a sealing gasket (e.g. as an accessory part of the fastener). The sealing gasket will be automatically assigned to the fastener, i.e. if it is deleted, the sealing gasket will also disappear. The fastener will be automatically assigned to the part to which it is connected. The corresponding sealing gasket can also be preset by specifying the standard designation in the settings for sealing gaskets. The sealing gasket will then also be automatically assigned to the fastener.

(A sealing gasket can only be automatically inserted if there is a sufficiently broad gap between the parts)

Example: 20002 1 5970010 Jacob Pull-ring w s

Here, the connection of a part has been declared as a flange connection (20002), to which a part with the part ID 5970010 (= Fastener) has to be connected at connecting point 1. A fastener with the standard designation Jacob Pull-ring w s is to be used here.

Specifications in the connection type attributes will be ignored.

Before inserting fasteners for flange connections, make sure that automatic insertion of counterflanges has been deactivated.

Fastener, unsymmetric

Plant Engineering > New > Pipe parts > Fastener, unsymmetric

There are pipe systems where one or several fasteners that are not symmetric have been assigned to parts. For these fasteners the part type Fastener, unsymmetric is available.

One example for such a connection type is the ERMETO compression fitting with cutter and nut. Cutter and nut are both located on the side of a nozzle in which a straight pipe is inserted and fixed with a cutter.

Pipe with ERMETO compression fitting - Cutter (1) and nut (2) are unsymmetric fasteners.

Usually, such fasteners cannot be inserted via the "automatic" connection type; as the parts are not symmetric, their orientation would be ambiguous during insertion.

The automatic insertion of unsymmetric fasteners therefore takes place exclusively via the connection IDs of the involved parts.

The part type ID for unsymmetric fasteners is 5971010.

Multiple fasteners on one connection

You can also automatically insert multiple fasteners on one connection. For example, the ERMETO connection system includes nozzles into which pipes are inserted and fixed by means of a cutter and a nut.

To insert more than one fastener, specify one of these fasteners at the part connection. Then, specify the next fastener at the previously inserted fastener, and so on.

In this way, a chain of parts to be automatically inserted will be created, which may look as follows in the case of two fasteners:

After completion of the insertion, all fasteners will refer to the part:

If you now want to delete the part again, both fasteners will be found and you will be asked whether these are to be deleted as well.
