Pipe Parts: Saddle Connection and Elbolet (PE)
Plant Engineering > New Pipe parts > Saddle connection
Plant Engineering > New Pipe parts > Elbolet
Parts of the type Saddle connection can be connected to any pipe part (hereinafter referred to as "target part"). A special saddle connection is the so-called Elbolet that can be used as junctions for 90° elbows and allow the creation of a branching on an elbow. The elbolet is welded onto the elbow in such a way that its centre axis stands perpendicular on of the two connecting surfaces of the elbow and runs through the related connecting point.
The following rules apply for the insertion of saddle connections / elbolets:
- If the target part is a straight pipe, an elbow or a T-piece, it must be located on a guideline. For elbolets, only elbows are allowed as target parts.
- If the target part belongs to a different part type, it needn't necessarily be located on a guideline.
- Only elbolets and no other saddle connections can be placed on elbows.
- A saddle connection or elbolet must always be located on a guideline.
- The guideline on which the saddle connection is to be located must start or end on the centre line of the target part. For elbolets, the start or end must be located on connecting point 1 or 2 of the elbow. For all other saddle connections, the start or the end must not be located on a connecting point of the target part.
- If this guideline begins on the centre line of the target part, the insertion type In edge direction must be used.
- If this guideline ends on the centre line of the target part, the insertion type In opposite edge direction must be used.
Proceed as follows for the insertion of a saddle connection/elbolet:
- First, insert the target part. Please note that straight pipes, elbows or T-pieces must be located on a guideline.
- In the case of a saddle connection, draw a guideline that starts or ends on the centre line of the target part. In the case of an elbolet, the start or the end must be located on connecting point 1 or 2 of the pipeline. For all other saddle connections, the start or the end must not be located on a connecting point of the target part.
- Then, call the Pipe part function and select the part type Saddle connection or Elbolet.
- Select the insertion type In edge direction, if the new guideline begins on the the centre line of the target part (for elbolets on the elbow connection), and In opposite edge direction if it ends there.
- Use the cursor to select the edge of the new guideline onto which the part is to be placed.
- Select the desired part from the part search result list:
The part will be automatically placed at the right position.

Please note:
- For the use of elbolets the variant Elbolet.vaa and the part classification class Elbolet are available. Use the DbPlantDataImport.exe tool to update your database.
- Elbolets according to the ASME ANSI standard are only applicable to particular elbows (ASME ELBOW LR... ). The diameter of the elbolet in inches must match the nominal diameter of the elbow. If no matching elbolet can be found for an elbow, an appropriate message will be displayed: Kann zu
- No matching part found in catalogue xxx (Data source: Catalogue) or
- No matching entry in database for selected Project/Folder! (Data source: Database)
