Lengthen/Shorten (2-D)

2-D Geometry > Change

These functions enable you to lengthen or shorten graphical elements, i.e. lines or circular arcs.

Function

Description

Examples

First identify the graphical element and then the extension point. The extension point does not need to be on the extension of the line. The side that is closer to the identification of the line is always the one that is lengthened or shortened.

If the extension point is inside the line or a circular arc, the element is shortened. "Inside" means that the extension point is between the imaginary straight lines that run through the two end points, perpendicular to the line. An analogous definition applies to the circular arc.

This function lengthens (shortens) several graphical elements up to an extension edge.

First, select the graphical element and then define an extension edge. The lines that are subsequently identified are lengthened to this edge. Once the graphical element has been identified, you can right-click to determine a new extension edge.

Pull-down menu Trim

You use this function to lengthen a line or a circular arc by identifying the graphic element and entering a value. If you enter a negative value, the line or circular arc will be shortened.

You use this function to change the length of a line or a circular arc from a fixed point. Graphical elements that are located on the element to be changed are also corrected. Identify the graphical element near the fixed point and enter the new length.
