Create Template File

The Input > Simple documents > Document function enables you to create various types of documents, e.g. a Word document. For this, the existence of a template file of this document type will be required.

The template file is responsible for the start of the application (HiCAD, Word, Excel ...) in order to open the document. Therefore, you need to select a template file when entering a document.

Template files are existing files which need to be created in the application in advance. If these template files contain a template or a graphic, it will be taken over to all documents created with this template file. You can define several template files for one application.

The HELiOS Desktop scope of delivery includes template files of the applications HiCAD, Word and Excel. For other applications you need to create the template files yourself.

A file will become a template file when saved in the ...\heliosmusterdateien directory

The following happens internally: Most file extensions have a path in the Windows registration file. This path links them to an application. The file extension of the template file initiates the start of the application as designated in the registration file. If there is no entry, define one in the Windows Explorer:

If you want to link another link with the application with the file extension, but do not want to change the system settings, select the Document type definition function in the HELiOS Desktop.
