Calculations

Steel Engineering > Further functions > Extras > Calculations

You use the calculation tool to perform beam calculations. When you select the function, the Steel Constructions: Measurement and Construction acc. to DIN 18800-1 dialogue window will be displayed.

Here you can calculate beams by specifying values, or perform the calculation for the active beam in your drawing. The tab is divided into various areas.

(1)

System selection
You select the desired system here. 9 different systems, which you select from the list using the relevant preview graphic, are available for selection,
e.g. system 3

(2)

Input

Here, you specify the measurement loads and the dimensions of the girder. The selected system determines which fields are active. For the meaning of the abbreviations, please see the graphic of the system in question.

If you choose a girder from the selection list, you must specify the length of the beam in the Dimensions text field, taking into account the scale of the drawing!

(3)

Catalogue
Here, you select the beam and the material that you want to use for the girder. The selection list contains all beam types. Alternatively, you can also choose a beam from the current construction. To do this, identify the beam in the drawing and then click the Active HiCAD beam button. The Catalogue window then displays the data of the selected beam.

(4)

Output
The bearing pressures, the maximum shear force, the bending moments and the deflection of the selected beam are output here. You can select a quotient from the list box for the permissible force for x (deflection).

(5)

Other options
To check the beam type, which has been chosen by means of selection from the catalogue or by transferring the active HiCAD beam, click the Verify + Optimise button. HiCAD checks the efficiency of the beam, taking the current specifications into account. In the case of an approximately 100% efficiency, the calculation data is output in green font. The beams shown in the fields Selected and Optimised are then identical.

If the beam is overdimensioned or underdimensioned, another beam of the same girder type is suggested. The highlighting in the girder list jumps to the beam that has an approximately 100% efficiency. If you want to take over this beam into the drawing instead of the active HiCAD beam, click the Exchange button.
