New Library Symbol (P+ID)
P+ID Symbol > Symbol > New
This function enables you to create a new library symbol.
- Any previous library symbol, symbol library or flow-chart sheet processing is closed when you respond to the "save data" query.
- In the displayed entry mask, specify the name for the new symbol, then select a suitable symbol type and select OK to exit the window.
A point grid then appears on the screen, the default grid size is 2.5 mm. All symbols in the ISD libraries are based on this grid. If you want to work with a different grid size, enter the required value in the corresponding Configuration. Please remember that you can no longer use the symbol libraries supplied with your software if you change the size of the grid.
HiCAD offers the symbol data mask for processing. In the case of popular symbol types, the data of a reference symbol of the same type is automatically assigned to the data mask (from the symbol library ISDREFSYM).
The following changes are required:
- Overwrite the text in the 1st and 2nd row of the Description section with the designation of the new symbol.
- In rows with the dialogue designations Aggregate and Code, it may be necessary to change the entry in the Default dialogue text column.
- In rows with the dialogue type designation Part type ID you need to enter a numerical code under Default dialogue text, i.e. select the required part type from the list displayed.
- Check to see if sufficient connecting points have been entered (see the end of the list).
To enable further connecting points to assigned to the symbol in the P+ID or at least have the possibility to do so, it is a good idea to create extra connecting points to keep in reserve. This means that the number of connecting points created should exceed the number of connections that should initially be assigned to the library symbol.
- You can now enter the required number of lines for connecting points under Connection dialogue.
- The Symbol data mask is now complete and you can click OK to take over the data.
HiCAD then displays a toolbar with library symbol processing functions on the right hand side of the screen.
You can now draw a new symbol. A set of HiCAD 2-D functions are available, but you can right-click the icon to display a context menu and select the Further 2-D functions option.
- Now draw your new symbol graphic.
- When you have finished drawing the symbol, the quickest way to create a library symbol is to click the Complete symbol creation
icon.
The functions that are then executed can also be called individually. If required, you can create the library symbol as follows:
- Create a graphic for the symbol.
- Edit the symbol mask, i.e. you enter the dialogue type and the associated default text for the symbol. To do this you need to call the Edit mask function.
If required, you can load the contents of another library symbol with the Load data mask from symbol library function.
- Set the connecting points, i.e. the connection direction and fitting point must be specified for each connection number.
- Position the dialogue text, i.e. set place holders for the dialogue text entries that should appear in the graphic; place holders should always be set for the first two Comment type dialogue entries.
- Specify the symbol fitting point.
- If necessary, process graphic text or parameter.
- Save the symbol to a symbol library.
