Create Bills of Materials (HiCAD)

Edit > Bills of materials (BOM) for ...

BOMs can be created for the entire drawing or for an active part. The functions

BOM for drawing and

BOM for active part+sub-parts

are contained in the HiCAD Edit menu, the context menus for parts or in the context menu of the ICN.

When calling the function in HiCAD, the dialogue box BOM is shown. This dialogue box accelerates the creation and the output of BOMs and consists of the following options and input areas:

Select the required settings and start the BOM creation with OK, whereupon the Report Manager will be started automatically. Which type of list - Structure List or Quantity List - will be active in the Report Manager depends upon the the settings specified in the field BOM type in the dialogue box.

Attribute Source

Here you can specify the attributes you want to use for the BOM:

Attributes you have assigned via the functions Drawing attributes or Part attributes, or attributes that have been automatically assigned by HiCAD.

HiCAD part attributes, part master data and document master data (if assigned).

If this option is active, you can specify in the lower section of the dialogue box the Number of levels of the product structure you would like to transfer to the BOM.

Report Manager Configuration

The RMS file you select here determines the settings for the Report Manager. For instance, it specifies the sorting criteria and the scope of output for Structure Lists and the Quantity Lists the criteria for identical part search and the layout for the output of data exported to text files, Excel files, HTML files or in HiCAD tables. Depending on the specified attribute source, HiCAD provides several configurations which can be selected from the listbox . During this process, the displayed RMS files are managed via the name of the file.

When working with your own RMS files please note that the file name extension RMS must be typed in capital letters!

Execute

HiCAD displays the BOM in the Report Manager, thus enabling it to be edited.

Inserts a BOM in HiCAD as a table. Specify a position.

Exports the BOM in an Excel file. HiCAD will prompt you to specify a path and a name for the file.

Exports the BOM to a text file. HiCAD will prompt you to specify a path and a name for the file.

Exports the BOM in a HTML file. HiCAD will prompt you to specify a path and a name for the file.

Prints the BOM.

Irrespective of the given setting, HiCAD always starts the Report Manager in the background.

In the Report Manager you can toggle between Structure List and Quantity List at any time. Therefore, the selection option for the BOM type is always blocked if you select the option Output on screen.

Variables File

The variables files determine the range of BOM data transferred to the BOM header and the BOM items. Taking the BOM function and the selected attribute source into account, only the appropriate variables files will be offered for selection here.
