In the same way as you enter value parameters for parts (e.g. for the length of a cuboid), you can also input formulas for elements (e.g. for the edge to which a flange is added).
Element variables can be used in parametric constructions. Within element variables, there are a number of functions which can be used in formulas and take the element variables as parameters.
Example: edge_length, distance_points, ... (For the complete list, see Feature Parameter Formulas)
Example: A parametric construction produces an edge whose length the user measures off in order to use the value, say, as the depth of a subtraction. If a change to a parameter changes the length of the edge, the subtraction feature currently still contains the old length as a fixed value. In this situation, the user can now define an element variable of type Edge (e.g. depth edge) and then parameterise the depth in the subtraction feature using the edge_length (depth edge) function.
