New Sheet From Surface (3-D SM)

Sheet Metal > New > New sheet from surface

Use the New sheet from surface function to construct, via specification of a sheet thickness, new sheet metal parts from the surfaces of a 3-D body. After selecting the function, the following dialogue window will be displayed:

Example
  1. Identify the surfaces of the 3-D part that you want to become the sheet metal parts.
  2. In the Bending edges area, click the icon and identify the bend zones.

The edges are highlighted in green. If you select an edge as bend zone you can enter the inner bend radius yourself. If you select a cylindric surface as bend zone, the radius of the surface will be used as bend radius.

If you now click the for the selection of surfaces (facets), you can select further sheets.

  1. Enter a sheet thickness or a standard.

Click the icon to take the standard from the HiCAD Catalogue Editor.

  1. Click the Referenced checkbox if you want to save the part as a referenced part (see HiCAD 3-D).

It is recommended to save frequently used parts as referenced parts. The part will then be additionally backed up as an individual part at the end of the saving process without being permanently integrated into the drawing: If any changes are applied to this part, you can automatically update the part in the drawing if required.

  1. Enter the sheet metal parameters and select the side (direction) to which you want to apply the sheet thickness.

If you do not want a clearance to be applied, enter 0 here.

  1. Click Create.

(1) Sheets (Facets)
(2) Bending edges
(3) Sheet metal part with relief groove

Please note:

For the created sheets/flanges, only the 3-D surface will be used. For example, if there are countersunk bores in the 3-D part, only the outermost (greatest) diameter will be applied to the sheet to be created. Likewise, in the case of material addings or subtractions, only the outermost surface will be applied to the new sheet.
