Create Bill of Materials (BIM-PLM)

PDM > Production > BOM

Use this function to create a Bills of Materials for the entire drawing. Once you have called the function, the Bills of Materials dialogue window is displayed. This window allows you to quickly create and output the BOMs and consists of the following options and input areas:

• Attribute source
• Report-Manager configuration
• Execute
• Variables file

Choose the desired files and options and click OK to start the BOM creation.

Please note:

• During BOM creation in HiCAD, a file Name.RM3 is created in the current drawing directory. Depending on the BOM creation function chosen, Name here is the name of the drawing or the name of the selected part. If your drawing contains 2-D parts, a file called Name.RM2 is created in addition.
• To display the BOM information, the Report Manager is always started in the background. Before creating BOMs, therefore, please also read the Report Manager information.
• You can also edit the BOM data subsequently in the Report Manager. To do this, start the Report Manager outside HiCAD and open the RM3 file. The relevant 2-D information is also automatically loaded.
• According to DIN standard, the "quantity" of an item must be output in the structure list, multiplied by the number of main assemblies, i.e. all fields multiplied by the number (e.g. total weight/ surface) take this into account.
• You can define in InitRepMan.dat in the HiCAD exe directory of the Report Manager installation (in a new installation, this is the same as the HiCAD installation) whether you want the quantity of an item to be calculated according to HiCAD2 logic or according to "DIN standard", i.e. by multiplying the main assembly quantities. The default setting is calculation according to DIN standard.
• For beam and profile sections, a section ID can be output in BOMs. For this the attributes
• H_Beam schematic sect. drawing top view (Attribute name: H_$09) und
• H_Beam schematic sect. drawing front view (Attributname: H_$10)

are available.

A string will be output, indicating the beam/profile section type, e.g.

|-------| straight

75° /-------| or 75° \--------| section

To be able to use these identifications in your BOMs, you need to change the Report Manager settings accordingly! Detailed information is provided in the Online Help of the Report-Manager.

Attribute source

You define here which attributes you want to be used in the BOM:

• HiCAD attributes, which you have assigned using the Drawing attributes or Part attributes functions or which are automatically assigned by HiCAD,
• HiCAD database attributes, which are assigned via the part master and document master,
• Attributes of the HELiOS product structure. If this option is active, you can specify the number of product structure levels that you want to be transferred to the BOM.

Report Manager configuration

The RMS file selected here contains specific settings for the Report Manager. For example, it defines the sort criteria and the output scope for the structure and quantity list, the criteria for identical part identification and the layout for the output of data when exporting to a text, Excel or HTML file and to a HiCAD table. Depending on the attribute source you choose, the list box provides various configuration files. The name of the RMS file is used to manage the RMS files displayed for each data source.

• HiCAD part attributes HiCAD_.....RMS
• HiCAD Database attributes HiCAD-DB_.....RMS
• HELiOS product structure PRODUCT_....RMS

If you are working with your own RMS files, please note that the file name extension RMS must be written in upper case.

Execute

You define here how you want the BOM to be output:.

Irrespective of the action you select, the Report Manager is started in the background. You can switch here between structure and quantity BOM. That is why selection of the BOM type is blocked if you select Output on screen

Variables file...

The variable file defines the volume of the BOM information that is transferred to the Report Manager. Depending on the selected attribute source, only the appropriate variable files are made available for selection here.

Variables file for BOM header
This file determines which attributes are transferred for the BOM header. The following files are available:

• To create BOMs for the entire drawing:
• RM_H_ExportSzn.HDB
  Only the HiCAD attributes are transferred, i.e. the attributes that you have assigned to your drawing using the Drawing attributes function.
• RM_DB_ExportSzn.HDB
  In addition to the HiCAD attributes, the document master data – if it exists – is also transferred.
• To create BOMs for the active part:
• RM_H_ExportPart.HDB
  Only the HiCAD attributes are transferred, i.e. the attributes that you have assigned to the part using the Part attributes function.
• RM_DB_ExportPart.HDB
  In addition to the HiCAD attributes, the part master data – if it exists – is also transferred.

Variables file for items
This file specifies the attributes that are transferred for the the BOM items. They are available in the Report Manager under Settings/Change in the View ... tabs.

• RM_H_ExportPart.HDB
  Only the HiCAD attributes are transferred, i.e. the attributes that you have assigned to the part using the Part attributes function.
• RM_DB_ExportPart.HDB
  In addition to the HiCAD attributes, the document master data – if it exists – is also transferred.
