We recommend that you retain the default setting 0 in the file ALG3DPAR.DAT for the entry

Adjust position (item) number/part attributes when up-dating files 0:Only sub-parts, 1:Never 2:Main parts and Sub-parts

as this setting allows you to implement most required cases.

When adjusting the part attributes and also the part master assignment, two different application cases need to be distinguished - due to the possibility of multiple linking in HELiOS:

Application Case 1

Itemising is performed with the same starting value in each assembly. This is the classical application case in mechanical engineering, but is also used for large steel engineering constructions.

Application Case 2

Itemising and identical part search are carried out across assemblies, consecutively for the entire drawing. This is a rather rare steel engineering case.

You can also specifically adjust part attributes that you do not always want to be updated.
